At Sunday Scribblings 2 the word is tell.
My friend Keith is very fond of telling you about my cycling exploits. I must confess I am a bit accident-prone; well, very accident-prone to be honest. He is threatening to tell you about something that happened to me a couple of weeks ago, and as he is prone to exaggerate and embarrass me I thought I’d tell you about it myself.
This week’s motley collection of words at Sunday’s Whirligig comprises Vicinity, pond, wind, shorebirds, water, thin, wonders, bicycling, natural, dunes, distance and cabin.
I tried bicycling on sand
I live in the vicinity of the golden beach at Camber so I thought I’d take my velocipede there for a spin. Camber is known for its natural sand dunes so I reckoned I would suffer less injurious and uncomfortable landings there than I do on pavements, in flower beds and ponds filled with smelly water!
And so last Sunday I pedalled across the car park toward the dunes and as soon as my front wheel struck sand, it sunk sending me bucking-bronco style over the handlebars. (I can confirm it was a gentler landing)
A flock of shorebirds, that was peacefully basking in the sun was clearly alarmed and flapped its way skyward squawking with fear! With that, Speedo-man appeared from inside a nearby wooden cabin wondering what all the fuss was about. I don’t know who was more shocked with what they saw, him or me!
Then if that wasn’t enough, I saw an army tank bowl over the next dune with its barrel pointing in my direction, followed by a load of gun-toting soldiers and a couple of camels. However, that’s another story for another day!
Ps. In case you are wondering, Camber Sands is often used as a setting for desert-based war movies.

Oh, don't worry, they were quite a tasty bunch!
DeleteYou do have that way of attracting men don't you? I wonder if I fell off my bike there would be hordes of women tending to my needs?
ReplyDeleteLet me know when you are planning to do it and my mates and I will be on the next flight!
DeleteYou live in a lovely area Rosie. Interesting to learn it is used for desert movies.
ReplyDeleteI love my East Sussex! By the way, Dunkirk and The Longest Day were just a couple of the movies filmed there.
DeleteAlways good to get in first Rosey - you never know what they will do with the story otherwise! Cycling on sand is a curious idea..we may well take our velocipedes for a spin!
ReplyDeleteI like to be the first at a party! Warning- cycling on sand is dangerous, don't to it!
DeleteI applaud you for your adventurousness. But also for your ability to tell a good tale so vividly.
