Fire!

Here's my 100-worder for Friday Fictioneers. Actually it's 101 words because last week I only used 99 so I saved the spare one for today!

I dated a fire fighter once. Honestly! Guess what his name was.... Jose which is pronounced hose-ay! Ha-ha!

He was such a bore. He always made me use a fireguard, complained about my bonfire, panicked when I lit candles, wouldn’t let me smoke a ciggy, checked my alarm every visit and said I should always strap myself to my step ladder when using  it! (I made the last one up!)

He wouldn’t eat smoked fish, didn’t like flambĂ©ed food, didn’t approve of a flaming sambucas and as for barbecues...!

But he didn’t inflame my passion so I extinguished him!

...and if you believe that you'll believe anything!!

  1. Dear Rosey,

You burned up the screen with all the plays on words. Love the last line.

    Shalom,

    1. Aw thanks Rochelle! I guess most of the other writers will go down the serious route so I thought I'd lighten the mood early on with a bit of nonsense!

  2. Sounds like he was something of a damp squib. Better to put him out. Good play on words here. :)

  12. This was too funny, especially the last line. It just confirms the new law of nature: no one resists a fireman, even if his name is hose-ey. Great story. --gahlearner (can't publish with my WP account for some reason).

  13. Haha. Loved your conversational tone and use of words. From what you wrote Jose had to be extinguished.

    1. Saying it as it is is far easier than agonising over trying to be clever and complicated!

    1. Well, everybody else wrote such deep and meaningful pieces so I'd thought I'd inject a bit of flouncy nonsense!
