Toothless Tom

The following is a true story so please don't laugh at it. It was a traumatic and life changing event which I thought I'd forgotten until just now. (Gosh, I do talk rubbish sometimes! Enjoy)

I’ve been looking at this picture and wondering why it reminded me of something – now I remember! It’s a bit like a birthday cake I once made for my friend’s son’s fifth birthday. Tom he’s called.

He loved toy cars so I made this spongy-cakey-thing, sploshed chocolate goo all over it and decorated it with tiny toy cars. It looked great!

Unfortunately he inadvertently bit on one, and out popped a front tooth!

He was only little and due to grow some new ones the way kids do, so he was only Toothless Tom for a few months!

Embarrassing though!

  1. Thank goodness he was young and his tooth grew back, but I can imagine the embarrassment, and the feelings all mom's have of not wanting any harm to come to their little ones, least of all harm caused by them. Now you're smiling and he is too! :)

  2. I always wonder about non-edible cake decorations.
At least it was only a baby tooth :-)

  4. Maybe it was a bit of hardened icing that was the cause :D But thank God it was only a milk tooth.

    1. Every Christmas my father tells us about the time he choked on a sixpence in a Chrissy pud and ended up in A&E! That wasn't my fault by the way. I wasn't even born!

  7. Next birthday, you can make something like this: http://www.chefkoch.de/rezepte/2578091404205973/Schweinetorte.html -- no teeth will be lost, except for decay because of sugar. This was fun.

  10. So that's what they call a toothsome cake. Fortunately it was a child so a bonus visit from the tooth fairy won't hurt.
