Magpie Tales - Mag 289
When I saw this picture it reminded me of something that happened to me when I was a child. No, it wasn't when I had my hair cut short!

I lifted a ginormous shell to my ear and expected to hear the sound of wind, like I always did. But this time a different sound came out.
‘Help, help, I’m stuck’ I heard.
I rushed along the sand. ‘Mummy, Mummy, someone’s stuck in this shell!’ I yelled.
Mummy told me not to be silly, like she often did.
‘I’m not being silly this time Mummy, listen’
To keep me happy, Mummy pressed it to her ear.
‘Help, help, I’m stuck’ said a sad little voice.
Mummy couldn’t believe her ears.
‘See Mummy, I was right’ I said stamping my foot splashing wet sand up her legs.
And right I was. After a bit of prodding and poking, Mummy pulled out her finger to find a little fairy child clinging on to it.
Just then, the mother fairy fluttered down. ‘You’ve found my child’ she said. ‘Thank you so much Rosey. As a reward, I will grant you three wishes’
With a wave of her wand, a shower of little silver stars floated down.

‘What are they to be Rosey?’ she asked.
‘Ice cream, sweets and....more ice cream pleased!’ I giggled.
‘Is that all right?’ Mother fairy asked Mummy.
‘Oh, why not’ said Mummy 'But not all at once!'
‘Can I have some too?’ asked the fairy child.
‘Certainly not’ said Mother Fairy. ‘It’s the naughty cloud for you’
Thanks Tess for giving me the chance to indulge myself in something silly! The photo is of course not me, but a self-portrait by George Tooker.
