The given word at Sunday Scribblings 2 is wayside, although I've been a bit cheeky and split it into two words! I used each half twice to make up for my mischeiviousness (blimey, that's a long word!)
The story first came to mind when I saw this week's photo at Friday Fictioneers. Thanks Rochelle, inspirational as ever.

This piece is unusually serious for me; I'm not quite sure where it came from!
What lies beyond I wonder? There must be more than this.
If I take the first step, who knows if I will l arrive safely on the other side.
Will I stop half way to gaze down at the troubled waters and see myself swimming against the tide? Shall I heed my pleas for help, or give in and watch myself sink into the blackness beneath?
I will leave now. Yes. I'll take that first step along the way to the other side to join my other self, the self I'm meant to be. I’ll stride out and look only forward. I will.
Just be there to greet me, hold me, lead me.
Love me.
Please?

Very serious, full of meaning, and, depending on interpretation, very uplifting in the end. Or very tragic. I like it.
ReplyDeleteI just hope she finds her other self on the other side. Thanks again for visiting me Ga H
DeleteI like this, Rosey. Very introspective, but then I think all writers are that sometimes.
ReplyDeleteNow and again! Thanks lizy-sussex-writer!
Deletei read somewhere that every journey begins with the first step. she's on her way of finding what she's looking for.
ReplyDeleteYep. Slowly does it!
DeleteWhat a lovely, ethereal piece.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I think I must have floated up to a higher place whilst writing that!
DeleteThat is very thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteIt even made me think! thanks for your comment.
DeleteIndeed.. a great extended metaphor.. that's what bridges are. At least there is no ferryman to pay this time.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness- I never did fancy Chris De Burgh!
DeleteThat was lovely!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks so much.
DeleteBeautiful piece Rosey! Sounds to me like she is ready to take necessary risks to improve her life. I love it!
ReplyDeleteShe's on her way! Thanks PJ.
DeleteHope she meets her inner self at the other end.
ReplyDeleteThis story is pregnant with wisdom and open to many interpretations. Skilfully written.

Thank you so much. It's not my normal style so I'm really pleased with the reaction it's got.
DeleteWhere on earth did this come from? A side of Rosey even I have never seen before!
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me!
DeleteVery profound but do try to find your true self now while you have the chance. Cheer up, you are not feeling guilty about putting slug bait down in your allotment are you?
ReplyDeleteI was only thinking the other day, those slugs must the best fed ones in the area eating all my organic veg. Has anyone got a recipe for cooking them after they've stuffed themselves to death?
DeleteWe have those moments from time to time Rosey - people are here in a metaphorical way but i hope we all have someone there in a literal way - phew big words are not good on a Sunday morning (and I didn't know how to split up the way side either)..it's enough to give you kittens...do you still have your kittens...they are good path finders too!

DeleteWe do, and they are, and we do, and they're not, and yes, but they are quite grown up now. Well almost but they ae a bit childish so I call them cattens!
Very pleased to hear Rosey ;)
DeleteI hope she decided to go to the other side of the bridge on solid ground.
ReplyDeleteSwimming's not her thing!
DeleteThis sounds like me, always contemplating the meaning.
ReplyDeleteMe to, that's why the story appeared in my head I guess.
DeleteVery introspective piece, sounds like she decided to stay on solid ground (that was my interpretation).
ReplyDeleteThat was I had in mind for her. Thanks for dropping by.
DeleteA very troubled person. Good description and internal thoughs, Rosey. ---- Suzanne
ReplyDeleteThak you so much for your kind words Suzanne
