Daddy's timepiece

I'm new around here. Someone told me about Sunday Photo Fiction so I thought I'd drop by. The picture immediately set something off in my head, so here goes!

I had a see-through watch once. It wasn’t meant to be see-through; it mysteriously fell apart without me noticing, and when I went to look at the time all found was the glass bit with my wrist showing through! It was three hairs past a freckle. (groan!)

Anyway, that’s beside the point because what I actually wanted to tell you about was my Daddy’s watch. He called it his 'timepiece'. As a small child, I was  fascinated by it because you could see bits and bobs rocking backwards and forwards and cogs going round. (I didn’t call them cogs back then, I remember calling them spiky wheels!)

The thing I remember most was his way of getting me to sleep. He would hold me in his arms with his watch – sorry, timepiece close to my ear and it would tick-tock me off to the land of nod.

Until just now, I’d completely forgotten about it. I wonder where it is. He wears a flash Rolex now. I’ll ask him when I see him next week.

(Word count 176 - that leaves me 24 spares for next week!)

  1. Nice. I like spiky wheels! Taps the back of your hand for three hairs past a freckle though :-)

  5. This made me smile. "Three hairs past the freckle" Something similar to what my dad would "Three Donald Ducks past the Mickey Mouse" This is a great story, I really enjoyed it.

(I did try to change the name to Sunday Photo Fiction to show who it was reading, but it didn't want to play)
